What are Decimal Numbers?

Ordering Decimal Numbers.

Task 1: Complete the questions below in your Maths books. 

Decimal Place Value

Adding Decimal Numbers

  • Write down the numbers, one under the other, with the decimal points lined up (Remember PUP- point under point)
  • Put in zeros so the numbers have the same length
  • Then add using column addition, remembering to put the decimal point in the answer

Task 2: Open the document on the right.

Subtracting Decimal Numbers
  • Write down the two numbers, one under the other, with the decimal points lined up.
  • Add zeros so the numbers have the same length
  • Then subtract normally, remembering to put the decimal point in the answer

Decimal War

Choose decimal numbers from the grid. After you choose a number, cross it off the grid. Each time you choose numbers you also write them on a whiteboard, lining them up so you can do some column addition with them. Once all numbers have been chosen each team adds their decimal numbers and the team with the highest total is the winner.
